8th Grade Safety Patrol

All members of the current 8th grade class may join the Safety Patrol. A teacher / adviser provides training and supervises student groups on patrol. Members must exhibit responsibility, academic achievement, commitment and good attitude toward others. Students are assigned positions where they are to encourage and remind students to exhibit good safety habits at all times, assist with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Patrol members are also assigned to assist in the cafeteria during lunch and inside recess.

Middle School Student Council

WTS Student Council helps students develop leadership skills, foster community awareness and participation and promote school spirit. Learning about leadership is a key activity, and members learn how to research, plan, organize and execute programs and activities for a large number of students. The teacher / adviser leads student council members in event planning and developing their leadership skills. The Student Council helps finance a number of events each year for the student community such as dances and school spirit days. While fundraising may take the form of collecting money, other fundraising activities collect things such as canned goods or used clothing or toys.

STEAM Club is a culmination of all things science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.  Students look at modern trends in those fields through sessions that encourage creative thinking and problem solving.  Meetings are held on Wednesdays throughout the year with dates announced in advance.  The students participate in a range of activies ranging from engineering challenges to hands on computer science exploration and artistic creation.  Students have the potential to use the tools they work with along with their own knowledge and imagination for a showcase in the spring.

Physical Empowerment Club

Physical Empowerment Club meets once a week to teach our children the physical and menatal practices of yoga.  Children develop an ability to empower thier self confidence and regulate their emotions independently throug the use of breathing techniques and the physical postures of yoga.  An introduction to mindfulness and meditation allows our students to spend time in quiet stillness, developing an ear for their own intuitive voice.

Computer Club

The computer club does many things, such as research, surfing on the net, and playing games. While attending the computer club, students learn much about the computer and about The Net. We focus on using the Internet safely. Along with the Internet, kids also have the opportunity to play games, which are already networked on the computer.

Membership in the choir is voluntary and open to all students in grades 6-7-8. Choir provides an opportunity for students to explore a wide range of musical genres, and to improve their vocal performance skills. The choir participates in two annual concerts and other local events.

Intramural Sports

With a focus on good sportsmanship, the intramural sports program offers students the opportunity to improve their playing skills, learn game rules and increase their level of physical activity. All participating students must have a physical examination and be cleared for play by their family physician.
