General Information
The Weymouth Township School District proudly serves 180 students from preschool to eighth grade. For grades nine through twelve, public school students attend Buena Regional High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Buena Regional School District.Weymouth Township School District offers engaging, authentic instructional experiences through its outstanding faculty and staff. The district’s classrooms are all equipped with state of the art technology, such as interactive whiteboards, laptops, and educational software. Our students enjoy 1:1 access to Chromebooks and a host of digital learning tools. Students’ social emotional health and wellbeing are supported by our character education program, The Weymouth Way, as well as contracted services with Acenda Integrated Health.
Biography
As a lifelong resident of New Jersey, Al Lewis has a proven track record of principled servant-leadership and bettering the lives of children across South Jersey. Throughout his career in education, Mr. Lewis has put students first, created people-centered work environments, protected teachers’ instructional time, and facilitated innovation through job-embedded professional development.Mr. Lewis’s first experience working with children was coaching youth ice hockey, which he continues to do to this day. Mr. Lewis began his career in education as an elementary school teacher in Voorhees Township Schools. From 2013 through 2022, he served as Curriculum Supervisor in Gloucester Township Public Schools. While serving in this role, he worked directly with Board of Education members, teachers, and administrators to build cost-effective programs. He collaborated with authors of national instructional standards to write curricula that aligned with state standards. His efforts modernized instructional materials, improved teacher practice, and had a significant impact on student achievement.
As a curriculum supervisor, Mr. Lewis led many initiatives, such as creating future-forward, career-ready technology electives. His leadership and expertise were central to modernizing an aging program, training staff in new content and instructional methods, and securing funding that was needed to purchase innovative equipment such as 3D printers and drones. The crowning achievement of Mr. Lewis’s time in Gloucester Township was his creation of a Summer STEAM Camp that served the district’s historically underrepresented students at no cost to the local taxpayers.
A proud alumnus of Rowan University, Mr. Lewis earned Bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education and History. He was a goaltender for the Profs Men's Ice Hockey team, and enjoyed spending time in Rowan’s then new science building, the government archives section of the library, and the planetarium. Mr. Lewis earned a Master’s degree from Walden University in Education, specializing in elementary mathematics and literacy. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Walden University, specializing in educational leadership.
Mr. Lewis’s primary calling is his family. He lives in Williamstown with his wife and children. The Lewis family is a hockey family, with both Mr. Lewis and his daughter enjoying their time as goaltenders at Hollydell Ice Arena. The Lewis family enjoys vacations to Disney World, reading, exploring nature, and playing board games.
Mr. Lewis was honored to be named Superintendent of Weymouth Township School District on July 1, 2022. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the district and serves as an ad hoc member of the Board of Education. He serves all district employees, monitors the use and status of all district property, and is the steward of a multimillion dollar school budget partially comprised of the community’s hard-earned tax dollars.
