    Biography
As a lifelong resident of New Jersey, Al Lewis has a proven track record of principled
servant-leadership and bettering the lives of children across South Jersey. Throughout
his career in education, Mr. Lewis has put students first, created people-centered work
environments, protected teachers’ instructional time, and facilitated innovation through
    job-embedded professional development.

Mr. Lewis’s first experience working with children was coaching youth ice hockey, which
he continues to do to this day. Mr. Lewis began his career in education as an
elementary school teacher in Voorhees Township Schools. From 2013 through 2022, he
served as Curriculum Supervisor in Gloucester Township Public Schools. While serving
in this role, he worked directly with Board of Education members, teachers, and
administrators to build cost-effective programs. He collaborated with authors of national
instructional standards to write curricula that aligned with state standards. His efforts
modernized instructional materials, improved teacher practice, and had a
    significant impact on student achievement.

As a curriculum supervisor, Mr. Lewis led many initiatives, such as creating future-
forward, career-ready technology electives. His leadership and expertise were central to
modernizing an aging program, training staff in new content and instructional methods,
and securing funding that was needed to purchase innovative equipment such as 3D
printers and drones. The crowning achievement of Mr. Lewis’s time in Gloucester
Township was his creation of a Summer STEAM Camp that served the district’s
historically underrepresented students at no cost to the local taxpayers.

A proud alumnus of Rowan University, Mr. Lewis earned Bachelor’s degrees in
Elementary Education and History. He played ice hockey for the Profs, and enjoyed
spending time in Rowan’s then new science building, the government archives section
of the library, and the planetarium. Mr. Lewis earned a Master’s degree from Walden
University in Education, specializing in elementary mathematics and literacy. He is
currently a doctoral candidate at Walden University, specializing in educational
    leadership.

Mr. Lewis’s primary calling is his family. He lives in Williamstown with his wife and
children. The Lewis family is a hockey family, with both Mr. Lewis and his daughter
enjoying their time as goaltenders at Hollydell Ice Arena. The Lewis family enjoys
vacations to Disney World, reading, exploring nature, and playing board games.

Mr. Lewis was honored to be named Superintendent of Weymouth Township School
District on July 1, 2022. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the district
and serves as an ad hoc member of the Board of Education. He provides leadership to
all district employees, monitors the use and status of all district property, and is the
steward of a multimillion dollar school budget partially comprised of the community’s
    hard-earned tax dollars.
